Youth Voice: The School-to-Prison Pipeline & Structural Racism

On March 4th, members of the Yes to Counselors, No to Cops in Schools Campaign visited North Lawndale College Prep High School. We spent time talking with students, educators, and administrators to discuss how the school addresses disciplinary issues and safety without relying on police and metal detectors. The full video of our visit is forthcoming. In the meantime, we met Mardia Cooper, a senior at NLCP who was kind enough to share a poem that she wrote about the school-to-prison pipeline and structural racism. Mardia also performed this poem at Louder Than A Bomb Youth Poetry Festival this year. We thank Mardia for her generosity. She’s an incredible talent!
