We are asking Sen. Durbin to:
Add his voice to ours in asking the Illinois State Board of Education and the Chicago Public Schools to commit to using ANY NEW FEDERAL FUNDS received for school safety from the President’s gun reform proposals to be used to hire more counselors, not cops. We are also asking that he speak up forcefully for Federal funding that can be used to implement restorative justice programs in our schools.
2. You can ALSO sign our petition to Senator Durbin asking him to make a statement in support of more counselors not cops in Illinois.
3. We also invite you to send a postcard to David Vitale, President of the Chicago Board of Education asking the Board to say yes to counselors and no to cops.
